From a Wheelbarrow
to a National Brand

The inspiring journey of Fomba Trawally, who turned determination and faith into Liberia’s first paper manufacturing company.

Born in Lofa County in 1971, Fomba learned resilience from his hardworking mother, who sold goods in the local market. After her passing, he left school to support his family, selling slippers in Monrovia’s streets.

Through perseverance and vision, he transformed humble beginnings into National Toiletries Inc. — a proud symbol of Liberian innovation, hard work, and hope.

A Journey of Survival and Strength

In 1989, when the civil war broke out in Liberia, Fomba and his family fled to The Gambia as refugees. Life in exile was not easy, but it strengthened his resolve to overcome hardship and build something meaningful.

After the war, he returned home with just $200 in his pocket — and a heart full of hope. With that small amount, he started selling slippers again, pushing a wheelbarrow through the streets of Monrovia. His honesty, humility, and dedication quickly earned him loyal customers and growing success.

From $200 to a Thriving Enterprise

Within a year, Fomba $200 business grew into $3,000 — a reflection of his commitment and hard work. By 2005, he had opened three retail stores across Liberia, selling imported tissues, cosmetics, and hygiene products from Turkey, China, Ivory Coast, and the United States.

But Fomba had a bigger dream — not just to sell products from abroad, but to manufacture them in Liberia and create opportunities for his people.

“I started small — selling slippers with nothing but belief and determination. Today, National Toiletries stands as proof that no dream is too small when fueled by honesty and hard work.”
